It was faster than expected! Brazilian Esquiva Falcão needed just over two minutes to knock out Frenchman Salim Larbi and score his 20th victory as a professional boxer. The fight took place on Saturday night (10), at the StubHub Center, in Carson (USA).
Right at the beginning of the fight, the Brazilian landed two blows to the Frenchman's waistline, who felt Esquiva's left hand. Larbi had a takedown, but couldn't resist another attack and the referee ended the fight, declaring a technical knockout at 2:09 of the first round.
“I did what was planned. Of course, I didn't expect it to end right at the beginning, but I saw that I could knock him out and I went after him”, said Esquiva Falcão, still in the ring.
Victory and title shot in expected rematch
After confirming his twentieth victory as a professional, the man from Espírito Santo won the stage right to fight for the WBA (World Boxing Organization) world title against the Japanese Ryota Murata. The rival was Esquiva's tormentor in the controversial London 2012 Olympic final.
“Now I’m going to get what’s mine! The WBA belt and the 2012 Olympic gold medal. I'm very happy with the result and the aggressive way I fought”, said the Brazilian.
Although it is not yet official, the fight between Ryota Murata and Esquiva Falcão should take place in July, in Las Vegas (USA).
