José Aldo calls for fight against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 224 in Rio

Former featherweight champion wants to restart the race for the belt with the support of the fans, in Rio de Janeiro

Willing to rediscover the path to victory, José Aldo has already chosen a date and rival to begin the journey towards the top of the featherweight category. The 'People's Champion' asked to face the veteran Jeremy Stephens at UFC 224, an event that takes place on May 12, in Rio de Janeiro.

In an interview with the program 'Revista Combate', on the Combate channel, Aldo revealed that the athletes already have the verbal agreement to duel in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The man from Manaus also revealed that the UFC would like to schedule his return in April, but he reinforced his interest in performing at home.

“I asked to fight him and he asked to fight me. So it will be a big fight. I’m hoping they get this right,” said Aldo.

José Aldo has an MMA record of 26 wins and just four losses. The manauara reigned in the featherweight division (up to 65,8 kg.) from 2011 until 2015 when he was knocked out by Conor McGregor. He even regained the title by beating Frankie Edgar in the historic UFC 200, but once again lost the category throne when he fell against Max Holloway at UFC 212, in June of last year.

The main fight of UFC 224 will be a fight for the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2 kg), with the Brazilian Amanda nunes putting his reign on the line against the North American Rachel Pennington.
