Conor McGregor shocked everyone when he made himself available to fight against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, on March 3rd. However, the Irishman's statement outraged the North American. According to him, the fight wasn't even offered, but 'it would be great' to face the 'Notorious'.

In an interview with the 'MMA Hour' program, Frankie said he would accept to fight McGregor. However, the fight should be held in an already existing category within the UFC.  For the North American, this would be a great way to take advantage of the Irishman's fame and help with his self-promotion.

“I woke up from a nap and saw it on Twitter. It was the first time I heard about it. I mean, there are no belts for 165 pounds (74,8 kg). I want to fight in a division. He doesn't want to defend his own belt. And he wants to fight me? It would be great, it would be great for me. I'm not afraid of anyone, I've been doing this too long to be afraid of anyone. If there is anything that would be good for me, it would be to fight with Conor McGregor. I would fight him in any division, to be honest. But I think if it were a real possibility, Dana would call me. He's done this before. He didn’t call me, so I don’t think it was a possibility.”

Frankie Edgar claimed that the Irishman did what he does best, creating news and staying relevant in the media. Still according to him, what matters is the fight he will carry out against Brian ortega .

“And it didn’t take my focus away, because I don’t care. It's fake news to me. Because the real news is that I'm going to fight a guy who actually fights in the UFC, Brian ortega".

With Holloway's injury and replacement, the clash against Brian ortega it became the co-main event of the night, with no belt up for grabs. The main fight of UFC 222 is now the one that will take place between Chris Cyborg e It's Kunitskaya. The fight is valid for Cyborg's title defense.
