Bisping accepts Lyoto's challenge for farewell fight: 'fulfills all the requirements'

The Brazilian challenged the Englishman as soon as he won his fight at UFC Belém and, it seems, Bisping gave the go-ahead for the fight to take place

As soon as the winner was announced in the main fight of UFC Belém, last Saturday (03), Lyoto Machida He was already looking at his next appointment. Still in the octagon, the Brazilian challenged the Englishman Michael Bisping. Without wasting time, as soon as he found out about the proposal, the former middleweight champion promptly agreed to face the karateka in his farewell fight.

“He (Lyoto) had a great career and meets all the prerequisites for my retirement fight. Now, I need to talk to the UFC to see what the next step in my life will be,” Bisping said on the 'Believe You Me' podcast.

Bisping still recognized Lyoto's abilities throughout his career, but made a point of remembering the Brazilian's doping. For the Englishman, the fact will be marked forever in his career.

“I have a lot of respect for Machida. Really, I have. He is one of the true experts who competed in the octagon… Of course, he had the whole problem with steroids and will always have an asterisk over him”, he concluded.

In 2016, Machida was caught in a test for using the banned substance 7-keto-DHEA. At the time, the fighter claimed that the product had recently been banned by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) and that he was unaware of the ban.
