Daniel Cormier will try to become champion of two categories at the same time at UFC 226 on July 7th. On that occasion, the owner of the light heavyweight belt will face Stipe Miocic, heavyweight champion. But DC made a point of calling his future opponent and talking about the salaries the two will receive for the duel.

In an interview with the North American website FloCombat, Cormier admitted to having spoken to Miocic before signing the contract, with the intention of the two negotiating a higher payment to complete the superfight.
"I talked to him. I called Stipe and obviously he's a great guy. We've spent time together, he's a fantastic champion, a pillar of his community. I really can't say enough good things about it. That being said, I told him “Look, I’m not going to fight you for $500”. I asked for a bigger number and he said “Man, I love you”. He said that right. I told him that we can only fight for the right number. His wife was saying in the middle of the call “That’s it, DC””, revealed the light heavyweight champion.
Cormier also revealed that he made a point of asking Miocic for a raise when negotiating the superfight and said that he only agreed to return to heavyweight to make history and become the first athlete to hold the UFC's two heaviest belts at the same time.
“Nobody did that. This is history. Of course, others have achieved titles at welterweight, lightweight and featherweight. But no one tried to win the UFC’s two heaviest titles,” he pointed out.
