St. Pierre leaves the middleweight rankings and Brazilians gain space

Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort and Thiago Marreta gained positions with the departure of the former Canadian champion

A few months after relinquishing the UFC middleweight belt once and for all, Georges St Pierre his name was officially removed from the category ranking. With this, three Brazilians gained space on the list. Lyoto Machida, Vitor belfort e Thiago Marreta rose with GSP's departure – Belfort is now in tenth place, while Lyoto occupies 13th place. Previously out of the rankings, Marreta “replaced” the Canadian and returned to the list, in 15th. Paulo borrachinha he lost one position to Lyoto and is 14th.

Interestingly, two of the three who benefited from St. Pierre's departure from the middleweight rankings will fight this weekend, at UFC Belém next Saturday (3). Lyoto Machida get the North American Erik Anders in the main fight of the first Ultimate event in the North of Brazil while Marreta measures forces against Anthony Smith looking to climb a few more steps in the 84 kg division.

Even though he left the middleweight rankings, St. Pierre continues to be listed on the pound-for-pound list, which ranks UFC fighters regardless of weight category. Previously in third, behind only Demetrious Johnson e Conor McGregor, GSP lost three positions, falling to sixth and giving way to the champions Daniel Cormier (light heavyweight, third), Max Holloway (penalty, room) and Stipe Miocic (heavyweight, tied for fourth with Holloway).
