Anderson Silva places Demetrious Johnson as the best in history

Brazilian admitted that current flyweight champion surpassed him in the list of great champions of the sport

Considered by many to be the best fighter of all time, Anderson Silva has a different opinion than his fans on this issue. The former UFC middleweight champion declared that he sees Demetrious Johnson at the top of the list of best in MMA history. Recently, Johnson broke the record for consecutive defenses of a UFC belt (11), which belonged to Spider himself.

In an interview with the North American program “TMZ Sports”, the Brazilian declared that Johnson is an example to be followed and a great model for the sport, praising the champion's record breaking.

“Demetrious is the new champion, the best. I have passion for my sport. I love when people talk about this. Demetrious deserves respect because he is a great fighter (…) I think Demetrious is the best of all time”, pointed out the former champion.

Anderson Silva was UFC middleweight champion between 2006 and 2013, when he lost the belt to Chris Weidman. During this period, the Brazilian defended his title 10 times, in addition to fighting in the light heavyweight division. Johnson won the inaugural flyweight belt in 2012 and, since then, has defended it 11 times and remains the only champion of the category in UFC history.
