Cyborg advances in weight-for-weight ranking; Nicholas returns

Brazilian is now the ninth best fighter in the UFC, regardless of gender and weight category

Featherweight champion Chris Cyborg advanced in the top-10 of the UFC weight-for-pound rankings after the victory over Holly holm at UFC 219 last Saturday (30). The Brazilian is now ninth on the list of best Ultimate fighters regardless of weight category. The ranking is currently led by Demetrious Johnson, flyweight champion. Another Brazilian in action at the last event of 2017, Matheus Nicolau entered 12th in flyweight.

Nicholas, who dominated Louis Smolka, formerly 13th in the division, had already been ranked after his victory over John Moraga. At the time, he had achieved 11th place. However, after being caught in an anti-doping test by USADA, he was forced to serve a suspension and ended up having his name removed from the rankings for the time he was out.

Still on the flyweight list, the decline of Smolka, who is now 15th, and the rise of Nicolau, made another Brazilian do well: Alexandre pantoja now it is 11th in the ranking. Other UFC 219 winners, such as Neil Magny, Tim Elliott e Carla esparza also conquered important spaces in their categories. The welterweight, who overcame Carlos Condit, jumped four positions to eighth; the bantamweight debuted at 15th with the triumph over Mark De La Rosa; while former champion Esparza gained three places and took sixth place from her victim, Cynthia calvillo.
