With his eyes on the UFC lightweight title, Khabib Nurmagomedov curiously, he doesn't think about facing the linear champion of the category, Conor McGregor. The Russian, who faces Edson Barboza at UFC 219 next Saturday (30), he believes that the Irishman is not the real champion and guarantees that his focus is on facing the owner of the interim belt, Tony Ferguson.

“(The fight with Ferguson) It’s the real fight. Is what I want. It's the most important fight right now. But, of course, my focus is on Edson Barboza. To be honest, I only think about Barboza and Ferguson, my focus is on them. I don't think about Conor McGregor”, commented Khabib, in an interview with the North American press and described by the MMA Fighting website.
For the Russian, Ultimate has protected McGregor from him, as the organization does not want to see its main star “with a smashed face”. Khabib believes that the Irishman will defend his belt against Ferguson or give up the title and the winner of his duel against Edson will be next in line.
“Conor is in a different situation than others. He's a big star. The UFC wants to put him everywhere. They don't want me to love his face. That's what I think. But he has to defend his title or else Tony Ferguson becomes the linear champion. In my opinion, I will win Edson Barboza on Saturday (30), Ferguson becomes linear champion and we fight in April or May”, he pointed out.
