Christmas came early for some UFC fighters! The event announced changes in the way athletes are paid for wearing the uniform produced by Reebok. In partnership with the sporting equipment supplier, the franchise increased funding for new athletes. On the other hand, the medallions continue to have the same value.

Until now, the base amount received by fighters, who have up to five fights for the organization, was US$2.500, around R$8.350 at current prices, for each appearance. With the adjustment, athletes with up to three performances will receive sponsorship worth US$3.500 (R$11.655), while those between four and ten fights will earn US$5 (R$16.650) per fight.
The announcement of the adjustment was made by Lawrence Epstein, director of operations at Ultimate, in an interview with ESPN in the United States. According to the director, the main objective of the adjustment is to encourage athletes with less mileage in the event. “This gives new athletes (in the UFC) a boost. We felt this was the most impactful and meaningful way to get more money to our athletes,” he said.
Veterans without a raise
On the other hand, the director confirmed that veteran fighters, with more than 10 fights in the octagon, will not have readjustment. As a result, athletes who have had 11 to 15 fights for the organization continue to receive a transfer of US$10 (R$33.300), while those who have more than 20 fights for the UFC will receive sponsorship of US$20 (R$66 ) for fighting. Athletes who step up to the octagon to fight for the belt continue to receive sponsorship worth US$600 (R$30) for the challenger and US$100 (R$40) for the champion.
