Even out of Ultimate for an indefinite period after failing a new anti-doping test, Jon Jones received “support” from a rival. For Alexander Gustafson, the North American remains UFC light heavyweight champion, even though he lost the title after new doping was confirmed with the analysis of the B sample from his test. The Swede revealed that he would like to fight Daniel Cormier again for the belt, but reiterated that, in his opinion, “Bones” is still the fighter to beat in the 93 kg division.

“Cormier has the belt right now. And of course I want to face him. I want that belt, certainly. But for me, the real champion is Jon Jones, of course, because he was destroying everyone in the division. Everything he did…No one has done it yet, no one has managed to do it, so for me he is the true champion. But I accept Cormier as champion too. He's a good person, a great champion. And he only lost to Jon Jones in his career, so he certainly has the material to be champion”, commented Gustafsson, in an interview with the North American program The MMA Hour.

The Swede has already faced the two “champions”, losing to Jon Jones at UFC 165, in what has been described as the toughest fight of “Bones’ career”, and then being defeated by Cormier at UFC 192. On both occasions, Gustafsson had a chance to win and the decision was close. Both fights also won the light heavyweight belt. Coming from victory over Glover Teixeira, “Mauler” still does not have a commitment made for the next fight and must wait for the winner of Cormier and Volkan oezdemir, which will take place at UFC 220.
