A few days after being officially released by the UFC to return to the Octagon, Mark Hunt already challenged Fabricio Werdum for a rematch at UFC 221, which will take place in Australia in February. The heavyweight fired back at the Brazilian, accusing him of running from him after the two faced each other at UFC 180, when the former champion won the interim belt with a flying knee. Hunt said he wasn't as prepared for the fight as he took it with little time to train and declared that “Vai Cavalo” was lucky with the knockout.

In addition to accusing Werdum of running away, the “Super Samoan” also cursed the Brazilian, saying he was a “mouse” and a “chicken” for not wanting to face him in a rematch.
“We hope to be able to fight in Perth, at UFC 221. We are waiting for Werdum to accept, but he is a mouse and a chicken. I wanted to be on the main card of the first title defense of Robert whittaker, it would be a historic moment”, commented Hunt, in an interview with the Sporting News website, mentioning the main fight of UFC 221, which will be between Whittaker and Luke Rockhold.
The New Zealand heavyweight also commented on Werdum's previous refusals, who was invited to face him at UFC Japan and then at UFC Australia, but said no on both occasions.
“I honestly don’t understand why Werdum doesn’t want to dance. We asked to fight in Japan and then in Sydney and he refused. After I left the fight with Tybura, he went there and agreed to replace me. So he said no to me and yes to Tybura, that rat. He knows he's going to get knocked out, that's all I think about. He caught me in Mexico, but I doubt the same thing will happen if we face each other again. I had three and a half weeks to prepare and 21 pounds to lose. And I was beating this sucker. He was lucky with the knee”, said the “Super Samoan”.
