Expectations for the award for best fight at UFC 218, an event held in the early hours of this Sunday (03), in Detroit (USA), were high. If on the preliminary card welterweights Yancy Medeiros and Alex Cowboy had an insane fight, in the main program lightweights Eddie Alvarez and Justin gaethje They didn't let it go. The solution found by the UFC was simple: it awarded the athletes in both fights with US$50 in bonuses, around R$163 at the current exchange rate.

On the other hand, by awarding two fights as 'best of the night', no other athlete received the 'performance' bonus.

The confrontation between Cowboy and Medeiros was full of twists and turns. The fighters exchanged knockdowns during the dispute and alternated control of the duel. The Hawaiian, with better physical condition, managed to overcome the Brazilian, who fought from the first moments of the fight with a broken nose, in the third round after suffering a harsh punishment and almost being submitted.

On the other hand, the duel between Eddie Alvarez and Justin gaethje did not disappoint, both fighters walked forward the entire time and exchanged hard blows. Alvarez won the first two rounds, but Gaethje grew in the third and was close to turning the fight around. However, Alvarez landed a hard knee to Gaethje's head in the final minute and won by technical knockout.
