After Ronaldo Jacare try to bring your next fight to UFC Belém, Derek Brunson announced that he will face the Brazilian in the main fight of UFC Charlotte, an event that will be played on January 27th. In an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster ESPN, the middleweight revealed that he has already signed the contract for this date and says that the former Strikeforce champion was “playing games” by saying that the duel would take place in Brazil.

“I already signed the contract for this fight as the main attraction of UFC Charlotte and I'm pretty sure he's already signed it too. I expect an announcement from the UFC soon. I don't know why he said the fight would be in Brazil. It's funny because he wasn't even on my radar, I wanted to face someone who would immediately put me in title contention. But then I thought: a knockout victory in the first round against Jacaré would certainly give him a chance to fight for the middleweight belt, because he has been considered one of the best fighters in the world for some time”, argued the North American.
The two already faced each other in 2012, in the old Strikeforce, when Jacaré dominated Brunson, knocking him out just 42 seconds into the fight. However, he expects a new fight against the Brazilian in January.
“I was just a talented prospect back then. Strikeforce let me take a fight outside the promotion and I was robbed in a split decision against Kendall Grove, I won that fight easily. And when I came back, they put me directly against Jacaré. I was angry with that defeat and I thought about finishing him off. I was too aggressive and ended up getting caught. He bent down and closed his eyes to release the blow. I was angry about this loss for years,” Brunson revealed.
