Despite not fighting in almost ten years, Oscar De La Hoya revealed that he returned to training with an eye on a possible boxing fight with Conor McGregor. In an interview with DashRadio, De La Hoya, 44, declared that he has been training secretly and, even admitting that he would quickly lose to the Irishman in MMA, he guaranteed that he would “finish” Conor in boxing.
“You know, I'm a competitive person. I think I still have something inside me. I have been training secretly. I'm faster than ever and stronger too. I know it could end Conor McGregor in two rounds. I would go back to that fight. I only need two rounds. Just one more fight. I'm challenging McGregor. I'll just say this (…) He's the king, he's a great Irishman, but let's be honest: he would destroy me in the octagon. We have to resolve this in the boxing ring”, said the eternal “Golden Boy”.
With a professional record of 39 wins and six losses, De La Hoya was Olympic champion in Barcelona-1992 representing the United States and was world champion in several divisions, in addition to having faced names of the caliber of Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Ricardo Mayorga , Arturo Gatti, Bernard Hopkins, Júlio César Chávez and Shane Mosley. As a promoter, he was responsible for organizing the recent event that saw the superfight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Álvarez, which ended in a draw. He takes care of the careers of Brazilians Patrick Teixeira, Yamaguchi Falcão and Éverton Lopes.
