Shortly after his pupil's defeat cody garbrandt for TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 at the beginning of the month, the former fighter Urijah faber admitted that he would return to the Octagon to face his former friend and teammate if the opportunity arose. For the current bantamweight champion, however, a duel with Faber doesn't make sense and, according to him, it would be the easiest of his career.

Dillashaw made fun of the UFC Hall of Famer's “challenge” and said that the “California Kid” didn't deserve a fight with him, the current champion, as he was coming off poor performances in his last fights.

“This is hilarious, man. It would be the easiest salary I've ever earned. I mean, that's comical. He will come out of retirement and fight directly for the title after losing to Jimmie rivera and have terrible performances in your last fights? It's hilarious. But like I said, it would be the easiest salary I've ever made, so I shouldn't be laughing about it. I should have been putting batteries in place for this to happen”, Dillashaw provoked, in an interview with the radio program on the website of B.J. Penn.

Faber and Dillashaw trained together at the “California Kid” gym, with Faber being a central figure in TJ’s rise to the title. After a fight between the former fighter and coach Duane Ludwig, Dillashaw decided to follow Ludwig, who formed a team in Colorado and left Team Alpha Male, making many enemies after his departure, including Faber himself and Garbrandt. Nowadays, the current champion divides his training between Colorado and California and continues with Duane. Faber, in turn, retired after winning Brad pickett in his last fight and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.
