It happened once again! The Brazilian Anderson Silva was caught again in an anti-doping test and is out of action indefinitely. With that, Spider is out of the fight against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Shanghai, an event scheduled for the 25th, in China. The substance found in Anderson's test was not revealed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
The new doping case comes two years after Anderson was caught in a test for the first time. In January 2015, the former middleweight champion was caught in a test before facing Nick Diaz at UFC 183. At the time, the prohibited substance found in the Brazilian's test was drostanolone, an anabolic steroid that acts on muscles, causing them to grow and become more rigid, and androsterone is a derivative of testosterone.
Check out the official statement issued by the UFC in full:
The UFC organization was notified today that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Anderson Silva of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample taken on October 26, 2017. As a result, Silva was provisionally suspended by USADA. Due to the proximity of Silva's fight at UFC Fight Night Shanghai, in China, on November 25, 2017, against Kelvin Gastelum, Silva has been removed from the card, and the UFC is currently searching for a replacement.
USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Silva. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process available to all fighters before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.
