Derek Brunson accepts Borrachinha's challenge: 'I'm going to kick your ass'

The request made by Paulo borrachinha to face Derek Brunson seems to have had an effect. After being challenged by the Brazilian in the octagon at UFC 217, the American, who initially showed no interest in the fight, used social media to guarantee that he would beat Borrachinha if the duel was scheduled. To top it off, he provoked it by posting an old photo of his rival.

“Look at the boy a year ago. You have my promise: I will kick your ass if my path to the title takes a detour. It would be easy money, you are a fraud,” Derek wrote.

Borrachinha, 26, has had a meteoric rise in the UFC. After a solid career on the national scene and a lackluster stint on TUF Brasil 3, he debuted in the organization in March of this year, knocking out Garreth McLellan in the first round of UFC Fortaleza. Almost three months later, the victim was Oluwale Bamgbose, defeated by technical knockout at UFC 212, in Rio de Janeiro. Last Saturday, in New York, he achieved the biggest feat of his career by knocking out the former welterweight champion John hendricks. In total, the Minas Gerais native won 11 professional fights, 10 of which by knockout and one submission.

Brunson, in turn, is coming off two knockout victories over Dan Kelly, in June this year, and Lyoto Machida, in October. Before, he had two defeats in a row: he was knocked out by Robert whittaker, in November 2016, and Anderson Silva, last February. At 33 years old, he has nine triumphs and three setbacks in Ultimate.
