Dana White minimizes Covington's insults to Brazil

More than a week after the controversial UFC Sao Paulo, the performance of Colby covington on the microphones, more than his victory over Demian Maia, continue to give something to talk about. The North American cursed and provoked Brazilians throughout the week leading up to the event and, after being almost attacked by Brazilian fans at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, he once again complained about the Brazilian people. After vice-president David Shaw said that the organization would review the welterweight's behavior, Dana White minimized what happened.

In an interview with journalists after UFC 217, the president of Ultimate asked Brazilian fans not to take Covington's insults seriously, who called Brazil an “hole” and the fans “filthy pigs”.

“I didn't even know we said that (that we would take the case seriously). Listen, at the end of the day we're in the fight business and people say a lot of despicable things. I think the Brazilian people are strong enough to deal with a guy saying this kind of thing (…) Of course we don't like it, and we make it clear, we talk to these guys about this kind of thing, but fighters end up being very emotional, you know? It happens…I don’t think the Brazilian people should take this personally,” said White, in statements reproduced on the Combate channel website.

With the victory over Demian Maia, Covington reached third place in the UFC welterweight rankings. After the triumph in UFC Sao Paulo, the North American challenged Tyron woodley, who made fun of his rival. But “Chaos” attracted the ire of other Brazilian athletes, such as Warlley alves, who already beat him, in addition to Erick silva.
