Former bantamweight champion, cody garbrandt was dethroned in his first title defense by his former teammate, TJ Dillashaw. Despite making no excuses for the setback, Garbrandt asked for a chance to prove that he is a better fighter than his former friend.

“No, I stand by everything I said, but he capitalized on a mistake I made. I'm the best fighter. I think I was being professional, giving the facts. I still think he's a friend of mine... He won, good for him, but I'm going back with a thirst for revenge and the belt will be mine. I trained with Dillashaw and I know he's a competitor, I know he has skills. I don't respect him as a person, but I respect him as a fighter. He caught me with one blow, but he caught me. I would like to have a rematch, but that depends on the UFC. I think the fans would like to see that, I’m the best bantamweight in the world,” said Cody after the press conference.

Despite the desire for an immediate rematch, Garbrandt may have to wait to get another chance at the belt. Everything indicates that TJ Dillashaw will move down to flyweight and challenge Demetrious Johnson, category champion. After the fight, the new champion formally challenged “Mighty Mouse” and the idea was well received by Dana White, president of the UFC.
