Before UFC 217, Rose namajunas had a record of seven wins and three losses, while her opponent, the champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk he had 14 wins in 14 fights. However, the North American of Lithuanian origin, the biggest underdog on this Saturday's main card (4), was not aware of the theoretical difference in standing between the two and, even with her strong jiu-jitsu, she knocked out the Polish woman and became just the third strawweight champion in UFC history.

Interestingly, Namajunas was involved in the first title fight, when she ended up losing to Carla esparza. The “Cookie Monster” then lost to Jedrzejczyk, who almost cleared the category. However, in just one round, “Thug Rose” changed the fate of the division. First, she landed a hard straight, which almost knocked Joanna out. Then, another blow finally knocked the Polish woman down, who asked the referee to stop the fight, as she could no longer take the beating.
