UFC 217 has already had two historic moments. In one night, two champions fell with two new leaders emerging. In the women's strawweight division, the North American Rose namajunas shocked the world by knocking out the multi-time muay thai champion and owner of the Ultimate belt Joanna Jedrzejczyk still in the first round. In the co-main fight, another challenger did well: former champion, TJ Dillashaw also knocked out cody garbrandt and regained the title lost at the beginning of 2016.

New champion…again

Champion just over 10 months ago, cody garbrandt arrived with the posture of a belt owner for his duel with TJ Dillashaw. Confident, the Team Alpha Male fighter appeared to be one step ahead of the challenger, his former teammate and enemy. Faster and with his dodging skills up to date, “No Love” managed to dodge TJ's kicks and land hard blows, especially left hooks.

At the end of the first round, Garbrandt almost settled the bill when he dropped Dillashaw with one of those hooks and the former champion was saved by the bell. So much so that he needed help to get to the corner. However, Duane Ludwig's advice had an effect and TJ came back better.

In the second round, the former champion began to invest in kicks, giving up combinations. In one of them, Dillashaw knocked down Garbrandt, who soon got up. However, seconds later, TJ landed a hook in a sequence that looked like the one that knocked him down. Cody fell and never got up again. The former champion now had the belt with him again.

“For me, I was always the champion. I didn't lose that fight Dominick Cruz and I've been facing the toughest guys this period. Cody is a tough guy and he will come back. He has heavy hands and is very fast. I know we will see each other again”, reported the new owner of the UFC bantamweight belt.

The American of Lithuanian descent Rose namajunas made history at UFC 217 by overcoming Joanna Jedrzejczyk, one of the most dominant champions in the organization's history at her own strengths. Known for her jiu-jitsu, “Thug Rose” knocked out Joanna in the first round with a furious left blow that stunned and knocked out the Polish woman.

Namajunas had already landed a hard punch to Jedrzejczyk's face, which was a knockdown, but she showed good defensive grappling by avoiding the challenger's ground game. However, soon after, he accepted Rose's stand-up game and got hurt. Upon falling in the second knockdown, Joanna could not handle Namajunas' sequence of blows and asked the referee to stop the fight.
