“I want to thank all the support and support I have received from my fans! I'm at home, with my family, recovering from the result that didn't come, but with a feeling of accomplishment, as anyone could have given up on the idea of being away from the sport for almost 2 years and then returning to the battlefield. The biggest defeat would be giving up on a dream that has already consecrated me. A greater defeat would be to inspire you not to move forward when all you need to do is lift your head and go for it. So, I thank you for all the messages of affection and strength. Saying yes, the Dragon is back and that giving up will never be an option! The day I decided I wouldn't stop fighting, I wanted to show you that, regardless of life's difficulties, you are either a fighter or a quitter. Losing or winning is not what defines a man in essence, but rather his journey for what he believes in and dedicates himself to. Thanks again for being on my side. I always count on your fans and know that I am always rooting for you too”, says the Brazilian’s statement.

Even with the defeat against Derek Brunson, Lyoto reappeared in the middleweight rankings. Former light heavyweight champion, the karateka is the 13th best middleweight on the UFC roster. Brunson gained one position, jumping from seventh to sixth place, surpassing Anderson Silva, his former tormentor – Spider hasn't fought since his victory over the American in February, and Brunson has scored two first-round knockouts since then.
