Right after knocking out Lyoto Machida in the main fight of UFC Sao Paulo last Saturday (28), the North American Derek Brunson asked for a fight with the former champion Luke Rockhold. After the duel, the middleweight reiterated that he is going to get this fight and said that he knows how to knock out Rockhold, who has recovered from his defeat to the current champion Michael Bisping by beating David Branch in September.

In a press conference after the end of the UFC Sao Paulo, Brunson explained that the former champion's position in the rankings motivated him to challenge him and made a point of praising his opponent, saying that he remains dangerous and relevant to the division, even after suffering yet another knockout.
"Of course I want Luke Rockhold, he's near the top of the rankings and I want that kind of fight. I think I deserve it. It's funny that the media talks a lot about Lyoto's return, saying that maybe he won't be the same, but I don't believe that. He does the same things he's done his entire career. He's the same guy, he can get out of the way most of the time, but this time, he couldn't, and that was it,” Brunson said.
Commenting on the confusion surrounding Colby covington and the Brazilian fans, the North American went in the opposite direction to his compatriot, praising the local fans and admitting that “Chaos” helped him not to be booed too much.
“It's funny, we were talking about this before. I even think Covington helped me. They booed his words so much that I think they looked at me and didn't want to boo me so much (laughs). I like Brazil, I've been here before, in Fortaleza. I was supposed to fight there, but my opponent got injured, so I spent the week on vacation, it was really cool,” he declared.
