Barboza is coming off three important victories, with dominant performances over the former UFC champion Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, as well as a devastating knockout over Beneil Dariush, in his last fight, at UFC Fortaleza. Number 3 in the lightweight rankings, Edson hasn't lost since December 2015, when he was submitted by Tony Ferguson. In total, there are 17 fights held in the company, with 13 positive results and four negative results.
In turn, Khabib, considered one of the main names in the under-70kg division, was scheduled to fight for the interim belt against Ferguson in March this year, but left the fight on the day of the weigh-in due to an injury. With an incredible professional record of 24 wins and no losses as a professional, Nurmagomedov won eight fights in the UFC, the last of which against Michael Johnson finalized in November 2016.
