Covington intends to submit Demian at UFC São Paulo: 'I'm going to retire him'

Two days from UFC Sao Paulo, the confidence of the welterweight Colby covington remains unshakable. The North American faces Demian Maia in the co-main fight of this Saturday's event (28), and surprised, during the show's Media Day, held this Thursday (26), by guaranteeing that he will seek the submission against the world jiu-jitsu champion.

Covington declared that knocking out the Brazilian would be very easy and also assured that he will be the next challenger for the Tyron woodley, as soon as the current champion “stops running away from him”.

“I see this fight going my way, definitely. Knocking out Demian would be very easy, I want to do something different. I'm going to look for the finish. I want to catch him with a Peruvian tie or a bulldog choke. You can be sure that I will look for the finishing touches. He doesn't want to go down with me. I intend to end Demian Maia and then take my belt against Tyron woodley, as soon as he finishes running away from me, and taking his vacation, his last moments with the belt”, declared Covington, ignoring the fact that Demian is one of the greatest representatives of jiu-jitsu in the UFC.

“I don’t care about that, I’m going to finish him regardless. I’m better than him and I’m going to send a message to the rest of the division,” he said.

Despite the strong words, the North American declared that he has nothing against the Brazilian specifically. Even so, he assured that he intends to retire next Saturday.

“I'm very good at everywhere the fight can go and I don't see how he's going to beat me. I'm retiring him on Saturday. I don’t know if Demian wants to hang up his gloves, but I guarantee he won’t have a choice after I’m done with him”, he said.
