After being knocked out in the first round of his fight against the champion Stipe Miocic, the heavyweight alistair overeem recovered with two important victories over Mark Hunt e Fabricio Werdum. And now the Dutchman has ensured that a triumph over the Cameroonian Francis Ngannou at UFC 218 will once again put him on a collision course with Miocic.

According to the former Strikeforce champion, Ultimate himself promised him that the winner of his duel with Ngannou will be the next challenger for the heavyweight title, leaving names like Werdum and Cain Velazquez in the background. He said, however, that it was “logical” that the fight with the Cameroonian would be a kind of “semifinal”.

“It’s something logical. I'm ranked number 1, so I would be eligible to fight for the belt now, but I've also said in other interviews that if I need to get past anyone else first, we'll do it. That's what it is now. Again, I'm a fighter, I like to be active. For me, this is the best. Some fighters don't fight for a year or a year and a half. I just need to get back in there every four or five months”, declared the Dutchman, in an interview with The MMA Hour program, guaranteeing that he will show Ngannou that he is the main challenger in the category.

“It’s going to be my job and my team’s job to stop him and show who’s number one – literally who the guy is, because I’m ranked number one. I will only solidify my fight for the title against Stipe”, he concluded.
