UFC president Dana White recently assured that the superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather would break the pay-per-view sales record, which currently belongs to Floyd's duel with Manny Pacquiao (4,6 million). However, according to the North American website Boxing Scene, the August duel was slightly below the record.

According to the publication, the superfight sold “only” 4,4 million packages, frustrating those involved with the mega-event, who made estimates of up to 6 million. If the number is confirmed, the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will remain at the top as the best-selling combat event in the history of pay-per-view packages. In any case, the 4,4 million packages sold represent a millionaire return for both athletes, with McGregor guaranteeing that his total salary for his boxing debut will exceed US$100 million.

“BoxingScene.com has learned that Mayweather vs. McGregor is expected to generate approximately 4,4 pay-per-views sold and an official announcement of that number is expected soon. This means that the superfight did not break the PPV record for fight events. This position still belongs to Mayweather's victory against Manny Pacquiao”, published the North American website.

Interestingly, “MayMac” did not break another record held by Mayweather and Pacquiao that organizers hoped to surpass: the event's box office. Nearly 20 fans paid around $54 million in total for this year's fight, while the 2015 fight raised $72 million.
