The fight will be a rematch, as the two already faced each other at UFC 169, in 2013, with the Brazilian winning by unanimous decision. On that occasion, Aldo successfully defended his fifth title in the featherweight division.

At 30 years of age, José Aldo He is the greatest champion in the history of the featherweight division. After defending his belt seven times, he was dethroned when he was knocked out by Conor McGregor at UFC 194, in December 2015. Afterwards, he beat Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, in 2016, and regained the interim belt in the 66 kg division, which became linear after his tormentor moved to lightweight. However, in his last fight, at UFC 212, last June, he lost the title again after being knocked out by Max Holloway “at home”, in Rio de Janeiro. In total, he has a record of 26 wins and only three defeats.

Lamas, in turn, has two consecutive victories, having defeated the Brazilian Charles Oliveira, by submission, and the American Jason Knight, by knockout. “Bully” had been alternating victories and defeats before the current sequence, losing, in addition to Aldo, to Chad Mendes and also for Max Holloway. At 35 years old, his record has 18 positive results and five negative results.
