At 43 years old and with a 13-year MMA career, Mark Hunt already suffers from the consequences that high-level sport brings to athletes. According to the UFC heavyweight, it is common for him to suffer from sudden loss of memories, to the point of not remembering recent events and facts. According to the New Zealander, this is the price you pay for being a fighter.

“I’ve been fighting since I was a child. I used to make $300 a week to put some food on the table, but I managed to become one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. I'll probably die fighting, but that's okay. I just hope it happens in a clean fight. My body is f***ed up, but my mind is still strong. I still have my senses and I know what is right or wrong (…) But I no longer sleep well and you can even hear me stuttering. My memory is no longer good, as I forget what I did yesterday, but I remember the shit from years ago. That's the price you pay for being a fighter. But I had a lot of dirty fights and I was punished by guys who were cheating and that's not right”, he declared, in an interview with the 'MMA Fighting' website.

Despite his advanced age and obvious consequences, the Super Samoan, as he is known, has not yet given up on an old dream: to become UFC champion. For Hunt, the goal could have already been achieved, but was prevented due to 'cheating' rivals, who became involved in doping cases.

“I would already be champion, if it weren’t for the cheaters. He would probably already be retired, playing video games all day and eating fast food. They wouldn't beat me if they weren't cheating. I reached the top with a lot of blood and sweat. (…) Whenever I start something, I try to finish it. I want to win that world title. I was the best in the world at kickboxing, but my dream is to have an MMA belt. I came close (in 2014, in the defeat to Fabricio Werdum), but the circumstances were not right. I'm number 5 in the world and I feel like I can be champion in the three remaining fights. I’m the oldest active fighter in the world and I’m still beating these guys,” he concluded.
