Gilbert Melendez will fight in the event co-promoted by Strikeforce and EliteXC on March 29th, but will no longer face ChuteBoxe Jiu-Jitsu coach Cristiano Marcello, as MMAWeekly recently reported.
Strikeforce vice president Mike Afromowitz confirmed that negotiations with Cristiano Marcello were advanced, but for undisclosed reasons, the fight was never finalized.
“We are in negotiations with Marcello, but this fight will not happen,” Mike Afromowitz told MMAWeekly.
Afromowitz indicated that Melendez is on the fight card, but that they are still closing in on his opponent.
This Strikeforce will feature a fight in which Frank Shamrock will defend his title against Cung le.
