Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier admitted his frustration with yet another positive anti-doping result from his arch-rival, Jon Jones. DC lost the belt at UFC 214 via knockout, but could regain the title if “Bones” is punished by USADA with suspensions that could range from two to four years depending on the organization's history.

In an interview with The MMA Hour, the American admitted that he was thinking about a third chance to beat Jones, even though he lost the previous two fights, but declared that this trilogy should not happen, as he does not intend to fight beyond the age of 40 – Cormier He is currently 38 years old.

“The sad thing is, I really wanted to fight him again. I simply don't know if there will be time. Because at the end of this process, if there is a suspension, I will run out of time, because I have always said that I will not fight at 40 years old (currently DC is 38). If this is true (Jones doping), as it probably is – because USADA is a very serious organization and they wouldn't have said anything if they just had doubts – then I'm probably going to waste time and the last time we fought was UFC 214 That's the truth,” commented DC.

Despite probably receiving the belt back in the event of the (still) champion's suspension, Cormier will have to live again with the shadow of his archrival on his reign. Previously uncomfortable with the burden, the AKA fighter guarantees that he will honor the UFC title.

“This time, he got the belt because of what happened. As a rival, I know we fight. But if he wasn't fighting cleanly, then how is that fair to me? So I keep saying 'if', because again, Jon is entitled to rebuttal and if it was proven that he was dirty, then we wouldn't have fought anyway. This way, I would still have my title. So, I'm going to take the belt and I'm going to be a proud champion, just like I was before, because I'm going to show people what the belt means”, said DC, who guaranteed to remain motivated, if Jones is exonerated.

“Now, if he comes back, he's not dirty, then I'll go back to work to get the belt and so I can find a way to fight him again, and if everything goes well, win the title back”, he concluded.
