“He is a tough competitor, we managed to put on a show for the fans. I wanted to give the fans a show after the Pacquiao fight, and I did it. That was our game plan, let him throw all his heavier shots at the beginning and get tired. (…) This is my last fight, ladies and gentlemen, for sure. Today I chose the ideal partner to dance. Conor McGregor, you are a great champion and Ireland has a good representative”, said the boxer.

McGregor, like Mayweather, adopted a respectful speech, avoiding provocations against the American. “He had to change his style a little. He's very well composed in there. I have to respect him. I thought the referee stopped the fight a little too early, I was tired, but I didn't go to the ground, I thought I could have let it happen more. He has a lot of control over his strikes, I have to respect his great work”, he concluded.

The fight

McGregor started the fight by taking action, hitting Floyd, who was trying to move around the ring. The two began to study each other for a few seconds, without much action. McGregor came back surprisingly in the ninth round, but was reprimanded by the referee who saw an illegal blow from the Irishman. The fight resumed with Conor walking backwards, while Floyd started hitting his rival in the face, who showed no power to react. Physically exhausted, McGregor began to stagger in the ring, while Mayweather accelerated the pace to try to knock him out, without success.
