The Brazilians did well at the New York Judo Open. The judokas left the competition with three gold medals, with middleweight (-90kg) Hugo Pessanha, light heavyweight (-100kg) Luciano Correa and heavyweight João Gabriel Schlittler (+100kg), who became three-time champion of the competition. 1999 Jiu-Jitsu world champion Leonardo Leite, who faced Luciano in a green-yellow final, took silver.
