Dana White, president of the UFC, is not at all optimistic about the future of Jon Jones, caught in an anti-doping test after UFC 214, held in July, when he knocked out Daniel Cormier and regained the light heavyweight belt. Without hiding his frustration with the episode, the director showed caution when commenting on the matter, but highlighted that the career of 'Bones', considered by many to be the best MMA fighter of all time, may have come to an end.

“Of course it’s brutal. It's unbelievable. I'm sure I feel the same way each of you felt when you heard the news. (…) If this comes to an end and he gets two or three years suspended, that could be the end of Jones' career. So how can we talk about his legacy? It's probably the end of his career. (…) I won't say anything until everything is done. We’ll see where we end up, but it’s unbelievable”, declared White, in an interview given this Tuesday (22), behind the scenes of the recording of the program “The Contender Series”, in Las Vegas (USA).

Dana also revealed that the UFC's intention would be to match Jones against Sitpe Miocic, current heavyweight champion. For him, the North American would be able to reign in the top division, thus achieving his status as the best of all time, a feat that will be difficult to achieve with the new suspension, which could leave Jones up to four years without fighting. .

“We were talking about Jones fighting in the heavyweight division (against Stipe Miocic, on the Detroit card). (… Whether Jones will return to the top again (if he is found guilty and receives a new suspension) is difficult to say. How old is he now? 30? Come back at 33, 34 and try again…and you look at what he could have been and done. It's sad. He's the best of all time in my opinion, he had the potential to move up to heavyweight, face heavyweights. If you look at Cormier, he's never been beaten at heavyweight. Jones beat him twice. I'm not saying Jones could be the heavyweight king, but he has the size, the strength, everything to be the heavyweight champion. Who knows what could have become of him. It’s just another one of those sad stories,” he concluded.

Leader of the UFC's weight-for-pound rankings, he is the youngest champion in the organization's history and considered by many to be the greatest fighter of all time. However, problems outside of competitions hinder the athlete's career.

This is the second time in just over a year that Jones has tested positive for anti-doping tests carried out by USADA. In July 2016, with just two days left to face Cormier at UFC 200, he was caught using hydroxyclomiphene and Letrozole, two estrogen blockers. At the time, he was suspended for 12 months.
