Floyd Mayweather shocked the world by deciding to return to boxing to face Conor McGregor. Retired almost two years ago, the American couldn't resist the financial potential of a super fight with the Irishman and decided to come out of retirement. After speculation that a rematch, regardless of the result, would be the next step for both fighters, “Money” decided to put an end to the speculation and announced that the fight on August 26th will be the last of his career, definitely.

“I gave my word to Al Haymon (Floyd’s manager). I gave my word to my children. And one thing I don't want to do is break that. This will be my last fight”, declared Mayweather, in a conference call, saying that he does not plan on surpassing Rocky Marciano’s record, which reached 49 wins and no losses, the same record as Floyd’s current one.

“This is my 50th fight and I appreciate all the fighters who have been in my path, who have helped me become who I am today. My focus is not on the 50th victory or surpassing Rocky Marciano. He is a legend and did everything his way. I want to do things the Mayweather way,” he said.

When talking specifically about the duel with McGregor, Mayweather assured that the biggest risk in the fight is his. This is because, while the North American arrives at the superfight with 49 victories, the Irishman has never boxed professionally.

“I have a record of 49 wins and no losses, so of course I'm taking more risks than him. When someone who has already lost is defeated again, everyone says it's no big deal, because it's happened before. Now, when someone has dominated boxing for 20 years and never lost, everything is at stake. My legacy, my cartel, everything is at stake”, said the American.
