The rivalry between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier, considered one of the greatest of recent times in MMA, seems to be coming to an end. At least if it depends on the light heavyweight champion, who has already beaten his rival on two occasions, most recently at UFC 214, last July, and raised a “white flag”, surprising by saying that he would like to live in a pleasant environment with Cormier.

“I would like us to get along. Especially because I'm black, and there aren't that many black people in MMA. I think it's sad when we try to attack each other. We should challenge each other, support each other, and push each other higher and higher. I wish we could get to a point where we could cheer each other on, attend charity events, do interviews together and talk about our rivalry, like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield did years after they fought, remembering their battles. I would love to do something like that with Cormier. I think people would like to see us that way”, declared 'Bones', in an interview with the program 'Sway In The Morning'.

Jones also recalled an episode that marked his second victory over Cormier: after the fight, he went to his rival, who was crying, and kissed him on the head, in a gesture of solidarity. When explaining the reason that motivated him to take such action, the champion clarified that it is very difficult to see an opponent crying, especially when it comes to MMA, an individual sport.

“It was very hard to see him cry, because he is a great ambassador for our sport. I think that in individual sports like MMA or boxing, it's common to see grown men crying, because the pressure to succeed is all on their shoulders, unlike basketball or football, which are sports where you can blame more people for the defeats. You can say you gave it your all, but the team wasn't doing well that day. In MMA, it's just you who's there, and you're the one who loses. When they talk about your legacy, they don't talk about your team, just you, forever. The way people engage in this sport is beautiful, because it shows what it means to all of them,” he concluded.
