Paulie Malinaggi, former world boxing champion, was called to participate in training for Conor McGregor for the superfight with Floyd Mayweather, but was surprised after two sparring sessions, with photos leaked onto the internet that insinuated that he had lost badly to the Irishman. After officially leaving the UFC champion's training camp, Malinaggi harshly criticized the fighter, calling him the “biggest asshole I've ever met”.

“He's an asshole, he only works well when things are happening for him. The moment he feels uncomfortable, he doesn't do well. For example, against Nate diaz, when he tried to take down a jiu-jitsu black belt. He doesn't like adversity. People look for a way to give up when they're not doing well and he's like that (…) In the second sparring session, he brought Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, his own agent, all these people just to tell them how good he is and at my expense ( …) He’s the biggest asshole I’ve ever met. Honestly, I won't care if I never see or speak to you again. Conor McGregor”, said Malinaggi, who spoke about the two sparring sessions he had with McGregor.

“Between the two sessions I did physical conditioning work and as I was a boxer for 20 years, the instincts started to appear again in the second session. He improved from one session to the next, but I improved much more. He started well, in the first five rounds, he did well, but then it started to get easier to hit him. From the seventh round onwards, I managed to hit him well. And I think they understood that I would improve more and more and he would get beaten during the rest of the training period”, he commented.
