At 39, Demian Maia will have on July 29th, in Anaheim (USA), what could be the most important challenge of his MMA career: he will face the welterweight champion Tyron woodley at UFC 214. Due to the Brazilian's advanced age, it is possible that this will be Demian's last chance to win the Ultimate belt. However, he guarantees that the weight of responsibility will not influence his performance.

“The things I learned over time and with my age is not to put that kind of pressure. It doesn't matter if it's my last chance or not. It's just another fight in my career, that's my thinking. If I think this will be my last chance I will be putting unnecessary pressure on my shoulders”, he declared, in an interview with the program 'The MMA Hour'.
Known for the extremely high level of his jiu-jitsu, Maia will face a skilled wrestler, which, in theory, could nullify his chances on the ground. However, the São Paulo native stated that Woodley's best qualities, although he recognizes his rival's power on the ground, are in the strength of his fists.
“I think the opposite. I think it's a great marriage for me. He’s a good wrestler, but I think his best point is his heavy hands,” she concluded.
Demian Maia is on an incredible run of seven consecutive victories, three of them by submission. Undefeated since February 2014, he defeated, in sequence, Alexander Yakovlev, Ryan LaFlare, Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit e Jorge masvidal.
