Minutes after the technical knockout victory over Gerald meerschaert at UFC 213, held last Saturday (08), Thiago Marreta set his goal: to get a rematch with Gegard Mousasi, who defeated him in July 2016. However, the confrontation became unfeasible after the Dutch-born Iranian left Ultimate for Bellator. Consequently, the Brazilian was forced to change his plans in the middleweight division. According to Marreta, two other ranked names catch his attention: Derek Brunson and Tim Boetsch.

“Regardless of Mousasi going to Bellator, I already knew that my next fight wouldn't be against him. I understand his decision, he did what he thought was best financially. Now let's wait to find out the UFC's position on my future. There are several guys who could give me a good fight, like Derek Brunson and Tim Boetsch, as well as others... In fact, I'll fight whoever comes, there's no need to choose an opponent”, he declared, in an interview with the website 'Portal do Vale Tudo'.

Asked about the fight that defined the interim middleweight champion, Marreta praised Robert whittaker, which surpassed Yoel romero by points. For the carioca, the Australian is favorite for the confrontation with Michael Bisping, current owner of the linear belt.

“It was a great fight between Romero and Whittaker, no wonder they won the best fight of the night bonus. Now, honestly, I don't see the Michael Bisping beating Whittaker, no. I think Whittaker has all the credentials to be the new number 1 in the category,” she concluded.
