Fabricio Werdum is unhappy with the defeat suffered by alistair overeem at UFC 213, held last Saturday (08), in Las Vegas (USA). After seeing two of the three judges score a 29x28 victory for the Dutchman and, consequently, losing the majority decision, the Brazilian promised to appeal to try to change the result of the fight, which, according to him, was wrong.

“I think I won the first round by a small margin. I changed a lot more, I looked for the fight, I ran after it to make it happen. If it were up to Overeem, we'd be standing there looking at each other's faces. I had to take the initiative. When it was time to rest, master Rafael Cordeiro said: “Werdum, we won the first one, but you have to move more, put on more rhythm”. In the second, I pulled guard twice, he landed more blows at that moment, I think he won the second. In the third, I clearly won. I looked for the fight the entire time, I set the pace. I put it down, I knocked it down. I was the one who came closest to victory. He actually fell. That's what I saw, what everyone saw. What I'm receiving from messages... I'm going to appeal, I'm not saying theft, I never said that. Mistakes happen, it's normal. Not just in the world of MMA, in everything. How many times have we seen results like this in other sports? An error has occurred. The Nevada Commission gave the athletes this opportunity to appeal, so I'm going to appeal. It's a right. It's an important result for me, I'm going to go after it. I don't want to say that I was robbed or anything like that, I want to make it very clear, but mistakes happen. The judges didn't see the same fight. It's not stalking, it's a me thing. It happens, but let's see if we can fix it”, declared Fabrício, in an interview with the website 'Combate.com'.

Asked about the fateful move in the third round, when he chose to take down Overeem instead of continuing to hit his rival, who was drugged and cornered against the fence, Werdum explained that he followed the strategy outlined for the team. According to the fighter, the plan was to rock his rival while standing and take the fight to the ground.

“I didn't continue to stand up because I was following the entire strategy we had created. I hit that one, two and a knee, in the third round, we did it in the locker room. And it really happened in the fight. I didn't continue beating because I always follow my teachers. If I hit and didn't knock him out standing up, they would say: “Why didn't you knock him down, since you're a jiu-jitsu fan?” There are always people saying something. I followed the strategy, the moment it flinched, I would put it down. And that's what I did”, said 'Vai Cavalo', who concluded by stating that he intends to fight again in 2017.

“I want to fight as soon as possible, I intend to fight in November. I don't want to go too long without fighting. I want to have two or three fights a year. The more you fight, the more confidence, the more experience. Three a year is perfect. I didn't have any serious injuries. I have to take my time, take a vacation, attend seminars, speak and attend... Take advantage of the moment to do this.”
