UFC cancels event leading up to McGregor vs Mayweather

Ultimate decided to move UFC 215 to September, in Canada, so as not to compete with a superfight

Even without the right to promote the superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather the UFC seems willing to help the event be a success. Proof of this is that the company decided to cancel a numbered show, which was scheduled for the same month, so as not to affect the superfight's performance in pay-per-view sales of the boxing superfight.

UFC 215, which would take place in Seattle, United States, was initially scheduled for August 19, a week before the duel between McGregor and Mayweather. The show in the North American city was canceled and UFC 215 will now take place in Edmonton, Canada, on September 9th. Interestingly, the event that was planned for the Canadians was a Fight Night, and not a pay-per-view, which indicates that the Edmonton show will have better attractions than initially planned.

PUBLICITY:

But the UFC's choice to cancel the event a week before the superfight between its lightweight champion and one of the greatest boxers of all time may have been made in order to protect UFC 215's sales, as the majority of MMA fans would have to choose between buying one event or another, and they would probably choose to see how “The Notorious” does in the boxing ring, rather than an Ultimate event.
