Number two in the UFC lightweight rankings, Tony Ferguson, seems to be tired of waiting for a definition of the direction of the division. With the current champion Conor McGregor facing Floyd Mayweather, the expectation is that Ultimate will hold an interim title to discover the Irishman's next opponent, when he returns to MMA.

But Ferguson doesn't seem to be taking the uncertainty any longer. The North American was scheduled to fight for the interim title at UFC 209, but the number one in the ranking, the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov, he felt ill the day before the duel and it was cancelled. He admits that McGregor deserves time away from MMA, but wants to face him when he returns.

“I have to congratulate McGregor, it’s going to be f***ing money for both of them. But don't forget the UFC, because you're holding my belt. I am here. Let's have a fight for the interim belt while Conor is doing this other thing. Let's go with it. The interim title is vacant. This shit needs to stay in my hands. I have nine consecutive victories, and ten sounds better, so let's go with it”, commented “El Cucuy”, in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie.

Ferguson hasn't fought since November last year, when he beat the Brazilian in a unanimous decision Rafael Dos Anjos, former category champion in the UFC Mexico. It was the ninth consecutive victory for the North American, who also beat names like Edson Barboza, Josh thomson and Gleison Tibau.
