Former UFC champion suffers serious car accident in the USA

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt hugs is in serious condition after the truck he was driving collided with a train. Ultimate's president, Dana White, confirmed the accident and the former fighter's condition in an interview with the North American broadcaster ESPN's website.

Hughes was transported to a hospital by helicopter and, according to White, he has some type of head trauma. The driver was unable to provide further details, such as the location of the accident or what caused the collision. According to Dana, Matt hugs I was helping a friend at the time of the accident. The organization's social media accounts sent messages of support to the former fighter.

Hughes won the UFC welterweight title in a controversial fight with Carlos Newton at UFC 34. He defended the title on five occasions, before losing to B.J. Penn. After the Hawaiian had problems with Ultimate, Hughes regained the belt by winning Georges St Pierre at UFC 50 and defended the title twice more, before losing the rematch to GSP. The North American is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, as a fighter and as part of one of the biggest fights in the company's history, his duel against Frank Trigg.
