Woodley challenges Demian for a title fight at UFC 214 in July

If it depends on Tyron woodley, the chance of Demian Maia fighting for the welterweight belt is getting closer and closer to becoming real. During his appearance on the “UFC Tonight” program on Fox Sports in the United States, the current 77kg champion challenges the Brazilian to a duel at UFC 214, on July 29, in Anaheim (USA).

“If you want a confrontation with me, you have to meet me on July 29th, that’s the date. The challenger cannot choose the date. You want my belt. So, take up the challenge on July 29th. If you want to do this, sign the paperwork. You don't need a vacation. You just had a three-round fight, but you didn't get hit. Let’s fight,” Woodley declared on the program.

Woodley, 35 years old, became champion of the category by defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, in July 2016, by knockout in the first round. He defended his belt on two occasions, both against Stephen Thompson, having drawn the first and winning the rematch, in March of this year. With 17 wins and just three losses in his career, T-Wood hasn't known what it's like to lose since 2014, when he was surpassed by Rory McDonald in the unanimous decision of the judges. In Ultimate, there are seven positive results, two negative results and one draw.

At 39, Demian Maia is on an incredible run of seven consecutive victories, three of them by submission. Undefeated since February 2014, he defeated, in sequence, Alexander Yakovlev, Ryan LaFlare, Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit e Jorge masvidal.
