The UFC light heavyweight title will be up for grabs again at UFC 214, on July 29th, when the champion Daniel Cormier face the challenger Jon Jones. Beyond this duel, however, two names are strong in the fight for a chance at the belt: Alexander Gustafson and Jimi Manuwa.
The Swede impressed by dominating Glover Teixeira and knocking out the Brazilian in the fifth round of their fight at UFC Stockholm. Englishman Manuwa, on the other hand, comes from two knockout victories and will have the opportunity to achieve a third consecutive victory against Volkan oezdemir, also at UFC 214. Training partners, Gustafsson and Manuwa are not competing for the chance and “The Mauler” guarantees that he would be happy if Manuwa “jumps the queue” and guarantees that he would not face him again – the two fought before being from same team, with the Swede winning.
“I haven't spoken to Dana (White, UFC president) yet, but we'll see what happens. If Jimi can do it, I'll be happy for him. Let's see what happens (…) I would probably fight someone else, we won't face each other. We are brothers now, we train hard together. This is how we deal with things. I will be happy if he gets the fight”, commented Gustafsson, in an interview with the program “The MMA Hour”, guaranteeing that he expects a confrontation against Jon Jones in the future, but will root for Cormier.
“I'm excited to watch this fight, and honestly, I like DC. For me, he is a worthy champion, he is a good guy. I hope he wins, but I wouldn't reject a fight against Jon Jones. That's the fight people want to see, and I'm going to fight him. So let's see what happens. It's one of the fights you really want. I want this fight, the fans want it and I know he wants it too. So, yes, they will probably (they will face each other again)”, he concluded.
