Number 1 in the welterweight rankings and with seven consecutive victories in the category, Demian Maia should soon receive the opportunity to face the 77kg champion Tyron woodley. And if it depends on the Brazilian, the confrontation already has a date to take place: for him, the month of October would be ideal.

“I want to fight, if I could choose, in October. From what the UFC said, it will be a title fight with the Tyron woodley, now it depends on them setting the date (…). I have a good feeling for this fight. At this level of top 5, top 10, anyone can win. Especially at my weight, I think there are five or six there who could be champions. But the champion is Tyron and I know it will be a difficult fight, but I think I have a good chance of winning”, declared Demian, in an interview with the website 'Combate.com'

When asked if he considers the return of Georges St Pierre a threat to his position as challenger, Demian appeared calm in relation to the Canadian. For him, the former welterweight champion has other career goals.

“I think GSP wants to come back, but he doesn't want to come back in the category, he wants to come back fighting big fights. He's already achieved everything he wanted, and he wants to get back with Bisping, he wants to do super fights, so I don't think it's his desire (to fight at welterweight). It could be that the UFC wants him to fight for the title, but I don't believe he has that desire,” he concluded.
