The Cuban Yoel romero came very close to facing Anderson Silva at UFC 212. The two campaigned for the fight, which would be worth the interim middleweight title. Even ensuring that the focus is now total on the New Zealander, who is coming off a knockout victory over Ronaldo Jacare, Romero admits that he would have liked to face Spider, whom he considers a legend of the sport.

“At the moment, I’m only interested in the title. It could be Anderson or anyone in the top five in the rankings – as long as it's for the title. But, Anderson is Anderson: a legend”, commented the Cuban, on the North American program “The MMA Hour”, also admitting that he still wants to face his rival Michael Bisping, current linear champion.

““I want to fight for the belt. It's an interim title, but it's important in the search for the linear belt. And we train for that. I don't mind the fact that it's an interim title. I have to win and then wait for Mr. Bisping. I always had it in my head that you have to go step by step. And my goal now is to fight for the title. I don't think about anyone specific. But, it's safe to say it would have been better if it was Mr. Bisping. And everyone knows why,” he concluded.
