Considered one of the best welterweights (up to 77kg) in the world, Rory McDonald, former UFC fighter, debuted in Bellator with a victory last Friday (19), when he submitted Paul Daley in the first round. However, it seems that the Canadian still has a grudge with his former home. For him, Ultimate made a mistake by not making efforts to maintain it.

“Maybe the UFC should be more cautious about what they let slip through their fingers. It's like I said in the past: fighters can't be ready to get in the ring 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The UFC definitely made a mistake letting me leave. It’s their fault and a win for Bellator,” he declared during his appearance on the “The MMA Hour” podcast.
Despite the criticism in the UFC, MacDonald guarantees that he is satisfied and motivated in Bellator. Listed as the next challenger for the category belt, Rory foresees a long career in the company chaired by Scott Coker.
“I opened a lot of eyes, I think, and I'm sure the UFC managers feel the same way. I am where I am now, I will continue my journey. I fought on Friday and let's see what we negotiate in the next agreement. I'm very happy at Bellator and I hope they are too. I foresee a long-term relationship”, he concluded.
In the UFC, MacDonald had a remarkable run, winning nine wins and four losses, having beaten names like B.J. Penn, Nate diaz, Demian Maia and the current champion Tyron woodley. He even challenged the former champion for the belt Robbie Lawler, in 2015, but was knocked out in the fifth round, after fighting an epic battle for more than 20 minutes.
