Michael Bisping made it clear, once again, that its focus is on facing Georges St Pierre. Even if this has to take a long time to happen, since the Canadian has already warned that he will only be able to return to fight after October. For the middleweight champion, however, the waiting time will not be an obstacle.

“I know they (UFC) are trying to postpone the fight against GSP and, in my opinion, it won't happen now. But let's not lose all hope. Nothing is defined yet. I'm discussing this with them. St-Pierre wants to fight me and I want to fight him, so what's going on, what's the problem? If this fight does happen, they (UFC) will get tired of waiting because this fight would never happen in July. From the beginning, I heard from a few sources that they wanted it to be on July 8th, but that it wasn't going to happen. But let’s see, my goal is to convince them that I should face Georges St-Pierre”, declared Bisping on the “Believe You Me” podcast.
Interestingly, Dana White, president of the UFC, assured that St. Pierre will no longer fight for the middleweight belt, but rather the welterweight one, category in which the Canadian reigned from 2007 to 2013, making nine title defenses.
Asked about the UFC's idea of marrying a duel between Yoel romero e Robert whittaker for the interim belt in the category in which he holds the linear title, Bisping surprised by encouraging the fight to get off the ground.
“They want me to fight in July, but my knee won't be good by then. And St-Pierre wouldn't be ready to return until October or November. If I don't fight, they'll put an interim title on the line. Assuming that happens, if I were the matchmaker, I would actually put Whittaker against Yoel. I have nothing against Robert, he's a great fighter, he fought hard and I have a lot of respect for him. But I can't say the same about Romero. It's certainly not on my Christmas card list. Everyone knows what I think about him: he's an idiot and a fraud. If they fight, I hope Whittaker wins,” he concluded.
Bisping won the middleweight belt with a knockout Luke Rockhold at UFC 199, in June 2016. Since then, he has only performed once, when he defended his title against Dan Henderson at UFC 204 last October.
